Proactively Promoting Bone Health

Many times, we only think about our bone and joint health when we are dealing with pain or discomfort. Making proactive choices to benefit bone and joint health is a good practice for maintaining long-term health and preventing some of the aches and pains that may crop up otherwise.

One of the best things to do to promote long-term bone and joint health is to be active. Regular exercise is beneficial for all-around health, including bone and joint health. Be wary of overuse or bad form while exercising, however. Even moderate physical activity such as extended walking, jogging and stretching is highly beneficial.

Make sure your diet includes correct amounts of vitamins and minerals that promote bone health. Look for calcium, magnesium, protein, vitamin D, potassium, glucosamine and chondroitin. In addition to a diet full of fruits and vegetables, consider adding supplements.

Proactive healthcare is a vital part of long-term bone and joint health as well. If you feel a twinge of pain, or new aches and pains, see your doctor sooner rather than later. Many issues may present themselves well in advance of becoming serious health issues.

Always use proper form while exercising, make sure to warm up and cool down properly, including stretching, and be aware of your diet. Listen to your body, your bones and your joints, and act accordingly.
